Plain-language notes on the technology behind company events

Social walls at events

A social wall shows guest posts and photos on a large screen during an event. It turns the audience into part of the show and gives sponsors and speakers visible proof that people are engaged.

Where the content comes from

Content can come from public social posts with an event hashtag, from photos uploaded directly through a web page, or from both. Direct upload is often easier at company events, because many guests keep their personal accounts private.

Keep a human in the loop

Every wall needs a person who checks posts before they appear. Automated filters help, but they do not understand context. Agree in advance what is not allowed on screen and who has the final say.

Running it on the day

Seed the wall with a few posts before guests arrive, so it never looks empty. Mention it from the stage at least once, and place the screen where people gather rather than in a corner.
